...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a

* Flood Watch for South Florida, including the following areas,
Coastal Broward, Coastal Collier, Coastal Miami-Dade, Coastal
Palm Beach, Far South Miami-Dade, Glades, Hendry, Inland
Broward, Inland Collier, Inland Miami-Dade, Inland Palm Beach,
Mainland Monroe, Metro Broward, Metro Miami-Dade, and Metro
Palm Beach.

* Until 8 PM EDT this evening

* Shower and thunderstorm activity will increase in coverage
across South Florida through the day today, becoming numerous
this afternoon. This activity will be slow-moving and capable of
producing torrential rainfall. New rainfall accumulations today
are expected to range from 1 to 3 inches. However, locally
higher rainfall totals of around 4 to 5 inches will be
possible, particularly in locations that experience multiple
rounds of thunderstorms.

* Impact: The heavy rain today is expected to support the
potential for localized flooding. This will especially be the
case where multiple rounds of thunderstorms affect the same
locations, and also where heavy precipitation has occurred
during the past few days. Areas most suceptible to flooding
impacts include streets, canals, and underpasses, as well as
other areas of poor drainage and low-lying locations. Where the
heaviest rain occurs, some potential will also exist for water
to inundate vulnerable structures and for roadways to become
impassable.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
