..BRET CONTINUES ON A WESTERLY TRACK LESS ORGANIZED THAN 24 HOURS AGO.. ..WATCH AND WARNING ISSUED FOR A PORTION OF THE ISLANDS..

 


BRET TRACKING WEST TOWARD THE LESSER ANTILLES WITH LITTLE CHANGE IN STRENGTH.  

  • A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR ST. LUCIA  
  • TROPICAL STORM WATCH IS STILL IN EFFECT BABADOS, DOMINICA AND MARTINIQUE.
  • OTHER NEIGHBORING ISLANDS IN THE LESSER ANTILLES SHOULD CLOSELY MONITOR THE PROGESS OF BRET AS OTHER WATCH AND WARNINGS MAY BE ISSUED LATER TODAY.
MODELS CONTINUE TO SHOW BRET TRACKING WESTWARD INTO THE CARIBBEAN WHERE UPPER LEVEL SHEAR IS FORECAST TO BE UNFAVORABLE FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT.   IN FACT MODELS SHOW BRET WEAKING TO AN OPEN WAVE.

STRONG GUSTY WINDS IN SQUALLS AND HEAVY RAINS EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE ISLANDS ON THURSDAY EVENING AND FRIDAY MORNING.  

AS FOR STORM INVEST 93L THAT WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM TO THE ISLANDS.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

Active Systems:
The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical 
Storm Bret, located several hundred miles east of the Windward 
Islands.

Central Tropical Atlantic (AL93):
Satellite images indicate that the broad area of low pressure 
located about midway between the west coast of Africa and the 
Lesser Antilles has become better organized overnight. 
Environmental conditions appear conducive for further development 
of this system, and a tropical depression will likely form during 
the next couple of days.  This system is expected to move westward 
to west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph across the central tropical 
Atlantic through the early part of the weekend. 
* Formation chance through 48 hours...high...70 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...high...80 percent.
