Idalia fluctuates in and out of intensity as it drifts slowly northward and upwells cold water to the depths of the ocean in the northwest Caribbean.
Idalia is forecast to track faster to the north as a trough begins to influence the tropical cyclone from the north. Conditions are forecast to become even more favorable, and unfortunately, the warm Gulf waters will allow Idalia to rapidly intensify into a major hurricane as it tracks closer to the Florida coast.
Remember not to follow the track line because any slight deviation can bring the center of Idalia outside of the forecast track. If you are in the cone, you should be prepared and ready to evacuate if told to do so.
Stay tuned to National Hurricane Center for the latest.
