..TRACKING THE TROPICS UPDATE SEPT. 23, 2024..

Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine advisories were initiated by the National Hurricane Center at 1100 a.m. EDT on Sept. 23, 2024.

So far, models continue trending in the Florida Panhandle. There has been some jumping back and forth at times, and that could be the case as this disorganized system develops a center in different locations.

That fluctuation in the thunderstorms and center reforming elsewhere will continue until this system begins to spin up tighter in the coming days.

The Weather Prediction Center is calling for a marginal risk for excessive rainfall. Starting Wednesday into early Thursday with a slight risk for a portion of Florida late Thursday into Friday and back to a marginal risk on Saturday from the moisture tail related to soon-to-be Tropical Cyclone Helene.

Heavier rainfall, flash flooding, and storm surge updates will be posted by NHC during the next few days.

Intensity models are calling for a Cat 3-4 hurricane. However, as hot as the Gulf waters are and as this storm moves over the loop current in the Gulf, it could rapidly intensify to even a stronger hurricane.

Stay tuned to updates from the National Hurricane Center for the latest on this PTC Nine.
