The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is currently tracking Tropical Storm Cristobal over the subtropical North Atlantic. As of the latest advisory at 0300 pm GMT, Cristobal was located near 36.7°N, 43.0°W, approximately 880 miles (1,420 kilometers) west of the Azores Islands. Cristobal is not a threat to the U.S. mainland, as the storm is expected to track eastward over the open Atlantic.

NHC is also monitoring Tropical Disturbance 92L, located approximately 950 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. This tropical wave has an 80% chance of formation within the next 2 days and an 80% chance of formation during the next 7 days. The system could develop into a tropical depression over the next several days.

Most ensemble models suggest that 92L will eventually weaken as it encounters increasingly strong wind shear while tracking west to west-northwest toward the eastern Caribbean. I will continue monitoring the system closely for any trends indicating a more westward track.

Another tropical wave is located approximately 200 miles south of the Cabo Verde Islands and is currently tracking westward. This system has a 20% chance of formation within the next 2 days and a 40% chance of formation during the next 7 days.

Although this system is still well out in the Atlantic, some model guidance suggests it may have a better chance of tracking farther west, potentially reaching areas near or beyond the Lesser Antilles and north of the Leeward Islands. Given the increasing model support for a farther-west track, I will continue monitoring this disturbance closely to determine whether it can survive the increasingly hostile atmospheric environment.
