...STORM INVESTIGATION 96L UPDATE AUG 25, 2026...

Storm Investigation 96L Update

Storm Investigation 96L has a 70% chance of formation within the next 48 hours and a 70% chance of formation within the next seven days, according to the National Hurricane Center.

96L has shown little sign of development since this morning as it moves through an environment with generally favorable upper-level winds. However, dry air in the mid-levels of the atmosphere could eventually inhibit further development. The system could become a tropical depression in the coming days, but conditions may become less favorable by the weekend.

Upper-level winds to the north and south of 96L are not currently favorable. I will continue to monitor the wind environment as the tropical wave tracks generally west to west-northwest during the coming week.

Earlier ensemble guidance showed a wide range of potential tracks, although most members indicate a gradual curve over the open waters of the Atlantic. This scenario could become more likely if 96L strengthens into a hurricane. If the system remains weaker, a more westward or west-northwestward track would be possible.

If 96L reaches the vicinity of the Bahamas while conditions remain favorable, additional development could occur in that region. However, it is still too early to speculate on a specific track or intensity outcome. For now, we will continue to monitor the system closely and wait for more clarity from future model guidance and observations.
