Tropical Update

According to the National Hurricane Center, tropical cyclone formation is not expected within the next seven days.

An area of disturbed weather associated with a surface trough and an upper-level low continues to move slowly west-northwest across the northern Bahamas. Bands of showers and thunderstorms, some capable of producing gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall, will continue moving across portions of Florida this evening and into Saturday.

At this time, South Florida has seen relatively little rainfall from this system, aside from scattered inland thunderstorms over the Everglades. The majority of the showers and storms remain offshore over the Atlantic, with additional activity affecting portions of Central Florida and approaching the west coast.

The Weather Prediction Center has placed most of Florida under a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall today. On Saturday, however, a small portion of southeast Florida is not included in that risk area. Current rainfall projections through Saturday do not indicate widespread significant accumulations. There is a high risk of dangerous rip currents today and Saturday along Florida's east coast.

I will continue to monitor this system closely and will provide updates should conditions warrant.

Looking farther east, I continue to monitor several strong tropical waves emerging off the coast of Africa. At this time, none show signs of significant development.

Según el Centro Nacional de Huracanes (NHC), no se espera la formación de ciclones tropicales durante los próximos siete días.

Un área de tiempo inestable, asociada con una vaguada en superficie y un sistema de baja presión en niveles medios y altos de la atmósfera, continúa desplazándose lentamente hacia el oeste-noroeste sobre el norte de las Bahamas. Bandas de aguaceros y tormentas eléctricas, algunas con ráfagas de viento, abundante actividad eléctrica y lluvias intensas, continuarán moviéndose sobre partes de Florida durante esta noche y el sábado.

Hasta el momento, el sur de Florida ha recibido relativamente poca lluvia asociada con este sistema, aparte de algunas tormentas aisladas sobre el área de los Everglades. La mayor parte de la lluvia y la actividad eléctrica permanece sobre el Atlántico, aunque algunas tormentas se han desplazado sobre el centro de Florida y se acercan a la costa oeste del estado.

El Centro de Predicción Meteorológica (WPC) mantiene un Riesgo Marginal de lluvias excesivas para la mayor parte de Florida durante el día de hoy. Sin embargo, para el sábado, una pequeña porción del sureste de Florida queda fuera de esa área de riesgo. Los pronósticos actuales indican que las cantidades de lluvia acumulada entre hoy y mañana no serán significativas. Existe un alto riesgo de corrientes de resaca peligrosas hoy y el sábado a lo largo de la costa este de Florida.

Continuaré monitoreando este sistema de cerca y proporcionaré actualizaciones si las condiciones lo ameritan.
