STORM INVEST 98L AND 99L TROPICAL UPDATE
AUG 23, 2019...1057 PM EDT
1. Invest 98L has not changed much this evening in fact with the loss of surface heat from the sun most of the thunderstorms have diminished. There is a moderate to strong cluster over the Central Bahamas that seems to be tracking east away from the weak center of circulation that is just along the southeast coast Florida east of Miami Beach. This low is forecast to track inland slightly or northward hugging the coast then turning northeast over central Florida near Cape Canaveral Florida. As 98L enters the Atlantic water and moves north-northeast or northeast some development is forecast and this system could become a tropical storm or even a hurricane.
NHC formation chance:
Formation chance through 48 hrs HIGH 70%
Formation chance through 5-days HIGH 90%
2. Invest 99L still showing signs of organization although strong thunderstorms have diminished some. Latest color satellite shows another burst of thunderstorms occurring. This system could become a tropical depression or tropical storm over the weekend or early next week. So far models are split between a track north of the Leewards to a track into the Eastern Caribbean. This system has the potential to become hurricane before it reaches the Islands or as it enters the east Caribbean.
NHC formation chance:
Formation chance through 48 hours MED 60%
Formation chance through 5-days HIGH 70%
