Good morning, here is the tropic update for 5/16/2022:
- There is a strong cluster of storms southwest of the African coast and along the inter-tropical convergence zone. Storms along the ITCZ are enhanced by the zone and are not showing signs of organization.
- Tropical Wave #1 has showers and storms along the central and southern axis of the wave over which is over South America.
- There is still that lingering surface trough that extends from the Florida south to the northeast Nicaragua/Honduras coast. Strong to numerous showers and storms are east of the Nicaraguan coast more than likely associated with this lingering trough. I am still monitoring closely this area because of the lingering trough and the tropical wave tracking west toward this area. The combination of trough and wave could enhance showers and storms and the development of low pressure in this area as the GFS has been suggesting. So I continue to monitor.
- Showers and storm along the along the western Bahamas is more than likely associated with a surface trough as well even though it does not show of surface map. This looks like a decaying frontal boundary left behind which could be considered to be a trough. Elsewhere tropical cyclone formation is not for the next 5 days.
