The tropics still remain quiet, but we could see some development in the coming weeks. As it is right now, the Gulf remains shut down for development due to a stationary front. This is also a blocking mechanism for storms coming from Africa. This pattern will cause these tropical systems to curve out to sea as other fronts push east. So I will continue to monitor, but for now we are looking good.
There is a small chance that a weak non-tropical low could form from the stationary front east of Florida or the Carolinas. That is not for sure, but some models have been hinting that this could happen, and it would track northeast away from the eastern seaboard.
NHC is still monitoring a wave that will be moving off the coast of Africa tomorrow evening and that has a 30% low chance within 5 days for development east of the Cabo Verde Islands. I will watch it for you all.
